The Harrisonburg Kiwanis Club held a special Veterans Day celebration Tuesday night at the Traditions restaurant.

Members were treated to a buffet-style meal, and Kiwanis Veterans were honored for their service to our country.

Virginia Sixth District Representative Bob Goodlatte was the guest speaker at the event, and he spoke of the importance of the day and of the freedoms protected by servicemen and women.

He also took time to speak about his thoughts on the recent election and the future of the Republican Party.

Goodlatte says, "The Republican Party is poised to make a comeback now. We obviously have taken it on the chin, but we have a great candidate for governor next year and that race will be very very important for us, as well as working to keep our majority in the Virginia House of Delegates"

Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell is the front-runner to gain the Republican nomination for governor. Three men are vying for the Democratic nomination.
