A Virginia hunter has become the fifth person to die this year during West Virginia's gun season for bucks.

The Division of Natural Resources reports that 60-year-old Kenneth Shenk of Port Republic, Virginia was found Tuesday afternoon in Pendleton County.

A DNR conversation officer found Shenk slumped over a buck he had apparently dragged for an undetermined distance.

The DNR started the search after Shenk's family reported that he had not been heard from for several hours.

DNR spokesman Hoy Murphy said it appears Shenk died of natural causes.

Last week on the opening day of the two-week season, the DNR and local law enforcement reported four hunting-related deaths, including a man from Stuarts Draft, Virginia.
