A wind turbine may be on its way to Rockingham County, but not in the near future.

A Massachusetts company is set to request a permit from the county board of supervisors next week that would allow them to put up a test tower in Criders. The tower would collect weather data to determine if the location is right for a wind turbine.

Local wind policy analyst Dan Boone weighs in on the possibility.

"It's my understanding that board of supervisors is considering a wind turbine sighting ordinance, and I think it would be highly advisable for them to have that ordinance in place prior to any wind energy development," says Boone.

The public hearing will take place December 10.
