Emergency workers recovered the bodies of three people from the remains of an apartment complex that caught fire in Hampton Friday.
Eight people were injured in Thursday night's fire at the three-story complex on Bimini Crossing. Fire department spokesman Lt. Anthony Chittum says none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
Two bodies were found on the first-floor apartments and one on the second floor. All three were in a second-floor apartment before the fire started.
Fire Marshal Anne-Marie Loughran says several adults and children leaped from second- and third-story balconies to escape. One woman suffered a broken ankle.
Loughran says the fire began in one building and spread to another through a wooden staircase connecting the structures. Each building had six apartments.
Loughran says a cause hasn't been determined but investigators believe the fire was accidental.
