New plans show the Simms School would have a new recreational center complete with a new basketball court and fitness center. There would also be a new teen center with a coffee shop and cyber cafe. A banquet hall is also in the plans that could also act as an art center.

Most council members agree that this project is long overdue.

"One of the reasons is the northeast community is a community that we haven't made much investment in," said Larry Rogers, councilman. "So I think this is fantastic."

The price tag for the complete reconstruction is $7 million. The redevelopment and housing authority hopes to have the Simms School project completed by June 2004.
