A federal court has refused an appeals request from Parkersburg residents seeking to file a class-action lawsuit against chemical maker DuPont.
The residents filed the request with the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia after U.S. District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin ruled in October against their request for class-action status.
Goodwin said the residents failed to demonstrate they share common injuries from exposure to C8, a chemical used to produce the non-stick coating Teflon.
DuPont uses C8 at it's Washington Works plant and residents claim it has contaminated Parkersburg's water supply.
The appeals court denied the residents' request Friday without comment.
DuPont spokeswoman Robin Ollis said the company was pleased with the decision.
