George Van Wagner had gone above and beyond his mission to bring Christmas to the needy families in and around West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle.

The owner and operator of West Virginia Wooden Toys has handcrafted more than 1,000 wooden toys to be given away to children this month, meeting the lofty goal he set for himself earlier this year.

Wagner's nonprofit shop features over 50 varieties of handcrafted, wooden trucks, trains, cars, planes, boats and even pull toys.

The majority of the wood supply used to build the toys was provided by Hicksville Planing Mill in Clear Spring, Maryland, and McDaniel Hardwoods in Kearneysville.

All of his toys are uniquely designed by Wagner himself, resulting in no two finished toys being exactly alike.

Made from 100 percent recycled wood material, these "green" toys are held together with nontoxic and biodegradable glue and varnish.

Some of the organizations that will be receiving toys from Wagner this holiday include Toys for Tots, various hospice services, Moose Lodge 1041 of Leesburg, the Boys and Girls Club, and various churches.
