A Winchester man who was waiting to be sentenced for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl last year has died at the regional jail in Winchester.
Jail Superintendent Fred Hildebrand says 55-year-old William Weber Senior suffered a heart attack late Friday and was taken to the Winchester Medical Center.
He was pronounced dead early Saturday.
In February, Weber entered an Alford plea in the case. Under an Alford plea, a suspect doesn't admit guilt but acknowledges there's enough evidence for a conviction.
During the first part of his sentencing hearing last Tuesday, several of Weber's family members testified he had raped and molested them and said he threatened to beat or kill them if they went to police.
