Chairwoman Elaine Mayberry and past Chairman Allen Cubbage are suing two newspapers, the Daily News-Record and the Page News & Courier and the papers' owners.
They say the papers harmed their reputations in articles on the county landfill and animal shelter, causing them to not run for re-election.
The supervisors are also suing a local woman for writing a letter published in the Page News & Courier. The lawsuit accuses Priscilla Good of implying the supervisors committed crimes.
One local lawyer says it's a difficult case.
Attorney David O'Donnell explains, "It's difficult when you have public officials and newspapers pitted against each other because the newspapers are supposed to report on these types of things and the public officials must show the statement made was false, that the newspaper knew it was false or that the newspaper should have known it was false."
All of the parties involved in the suit declined comment.
