A Bedford County man has been charged with selling two roosters for fighting purposes.

Bedford Sheriff Mike Brown says Avery Fitzgerald of Coleman Falls was arrested Tuesday morning.

Capt. Mike Miller says undercover deputies bought the roosters from Fitzgerald for about $100 on November 9 and December 14.

If convicted, Fitzgerald faces up to five years in prison on each of two counts of selling animals for fighting purposes.

About 40 roosters were seized and taken to the Bedford County Animal Shelter.

Shelter operator Rebecca Mitchen said the staff will care for the roosters until the courts decide what to do with them.

Hmmm...Ten years for selling two roosters. Its interesting to note that on that same day there were six or so men arrested for dealing in cocaine and heroin in that area (unrelated to the rooster thing). There are probably two or three more drug dealers that could have been caught with the resources spent by the chicken Nazis on trapping Mr. Fitzgerald. I would bet that the combined sentence of the five or six drug dealers for selling deadly drugs to our school children will not equal what the prosecutor tries to give mr. fitzgerald. Miss Rebecca: I can pretty much tell you what the courts will decide to do with the seized roosters: KILL THEM. Welcome to Virginia, the Commonwealth of Tyranny where our elected officials are in the HSUS pocket! Wake up America!!! Get your priorities in order!

So when are they going to charge the undercover officers with intent? They would have had to bought the roosters with the intent to fight them for this man to be charged. The thing is why not go after drug pusher or real felons? It is sad that this country cares more about chickens than its youth, I guess its congrats to HSUS, PETA and the rest of the animal nuts.
