The Rockingham County Board of Supervisors has put off a vote on Nextel Communications proposed 190-foot cell tower in Elkton. The town already has one cell tower, and landowners in the area are worried another tower will de-value their property and disrupt their scenic view.
At least one resident is for it, but the county's community development office has received several letters of complaint.
Diana Stultz of Rockingham County's Community Development Office, says, "Health factors with the towers. There are concerns with the view shed of both the Park and the Skyline Drive which has so many visitors."
Telecommunications law says as long as there's sufficient cell phone coverage in the area from other companies, another provider isn't necessary.
The county is investigating the issue and Stultz says they may move on the matter within a month.
