Man Arrested for Killing Daughter's Boyfriend

A 16-year-old Shenandoah County resident is dead after a shooting in Edinburg Tuesday night and a man has been arrested for it.

Forty-seven-year-old Jody Lynn Bradley was arraigned Wednesday morning on a charge of first degree murder.

He is accused of shooting and killing 16-year-old Brendon Manning Barker. Shenandoah County Sheriff Timothy Carter says Barker was dating Bradley's 16-year-old daughter, Sarah.

Deputies say Sarah called 911 Tuesday night shortly after 6 p.m. to report the shooting.

When they arrived at the house on Wakesman's Grove Road, they found Barker's body in the attic with a single gunshot wound to the head. Authorities won't say at this time if the attic is where Barker was shot.

They did find a revolver at the scene that belongs to Bradley, but they also are not saying whether or not it is the murder weapon.

Carter will not release any information about what happened leading up to the murder, but he does say authorities are confident Bradley acted alone.

He says, "No, no other people. Not at this point. We believe we have the suspect in custody. We don't believe there are any other people involved as far as that's concerned. But there could possibly be other charges once we determine more details for the case."

Barker was a student at Strasburg High School. Sarah Bradley had also attended that school before she transferred to Central High School in Woodstock.

Carter says he expects to file one more charges against Bradley, who is being held without bond at the Shenandoah County Jail.

Because Barker was a minor, Bradley will appear in juvenile court on February 12.
