And that's their parent's problem. Check the website if the bus is 5 minutes late... Simple parenting and common sense. Everybody can live and learn from this... The super made the best call he could as fast as he could.
City kids waited for their busses this morning calling their friends wondering if they had missed the bus because the normal arrival time had come and gone. I had checked to see if there was a delay and there was not. I called the school to find out that the busses were being held until they felt it was safe for them to travel. Hmm, during this time the children were left to stand at their stops wondering what was going on. Seems to me it would have been better to have put the schools on a delay...
I think this storm was a bit of a surprise to everyone and I'm sure Dr. McQuain made his decision as soon as possible. Under normal circumstances the decision to close schools is posted by 6:30. My children also attend Augusta County Schools and I would not have sent them to school or driven them myself, if I felt that they would be in any danger.
Well... Augusta County Schools start at 8:20. Why was your son on the road before 7am, no... 7:30am? Especially if it was snowing. Your little one I can understand,as it was a bus... but I'd hold my oldest at home especially if it were snowy until the last minute he had to leave. Since you've been burned in the past, you should have known that, but oh well! Live and learn. Good luck to you! Hold your son at home until 7:15 next time this situation comes up.
It happened again! After being assured by Dr. McQuain last year that he makes the school opening decision before 6:30 a.m. and notifies the media accordingly, Augusta County schools were delcared 2 hours in delay at 7:05 this morning. My youngest son was already on his bus and my 17 year old with NO bad weather driving experience had already left too. Someone screwed up AGAIN, and my kids were at risk because of it. Expecting that he will defend his decision with the road condition report from VDOT, I'd like to remind him that VDOT doesn't treat or plow the secondary roads that most of us live on until they are sure the main roads are all treated/plowed. Deerfield Valley road was snow covered and slick at 6:30 this morning. Someone needs to hold his feet to the fire because this was rediculous and dangerous. School bus drivers that live in these outlying areas should be whom he consults on road conditions, not VDOT.
