A Kentucky man convicted of a federal charge stemming from the abduction and rape of an 11-year-old Wheeling girl will spend 40 years in prison.

U.S. Attorney Sharon Potter says 29-year-old Joshua Ridings of Owensboro, Kentucky will be on supervised release for the rest of his life when he completes his prison sentence.

U.S. District Judge Frederick P. Stamp Jr. sentenced Ridings on Monday.

Ridings pleaded guilty in October to a federal charge of crossing a state line with the intent to engage in a sexual act with a person under the age of 12.

Authorities say the girl was taken from Wheeling into Belmont County, Ohio, and sexually assaulted in February 2007.

State charges of kidnapping, first-degree sexual assault and second-degree sexual assault are pending.
