A Newport News police officer is on administrative leave after being charged with abduction.

The Newport News Police Department said Monday that 37-year-old Christopher F. Miner was arrested Sunday on a charge of abduction for immoral purpose. Miner was being held Monday in the Newport News City Jail without bond.

The department said in a news release that a 27-year-old Newport News woman told police Miner refused to let her leave a residence where she had spent a social evening with the officer.

Besides the criminal investigation, an internal investigation of the alleged incident is being conducted. Miner has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of both investigations.

Miner is a patrol officer who has been with the Newport News department since July 2003.
