After a second incident involving counterfeit money in Harrisonburg over the weekend, officials say the crime is now expanding into other parts of the Valley.
A $50 bill was used at a Food Lion over the weekend. The other incident took place at the Red Front, also in Harrisonburg.
In Frederick County, three people were also arrested January 2 with $660 in fake $20 bills.
These three people, all from Cabins, West Virginia, were arrested in Frederick County on charges of fraud and possession of forged bank notes.
Police say they photo-copied both sides of a $20 bill and then glued the two copies together.
"This case like I said the water mark our security threat wasn't running through it, the edges didn't match properly," says Frederick County Sheriff Maj. Robert Eckman.
So far this year, the Frederick County Sheriff's department has investigated one other case of passing counterfeit money that involved a $5 bill.
