Harrisonburg Police have announced several arrests after a two-year drug and gang investigation and more arrests could be coming.
Police are charging Clinton "Casper" Martin with 46 crimes related to gang activity, drugs, and firearm use. A full list of charges is at the bottom of this article.
However, police say an attempted murder just days ago led to an additional arrest in this case at Martin's home.
Harrisonburg Police call Martin a major player in gang activity in Virginia. Tuesday afternoon, police arrested the 24 year old at the Roses parking lot.
HPD Lt. Kurt Boshart says Martin was trading drugs for guns.
"It should be noted that Martin is a high-ranking gang member known on the streets as one of the leaders in the state of Virginia," says Boshart.
Police say he was selling a large amount of methamphetamine in Harrisonburg and the surrounding area, but he's not the only one being tied to this so-called drug and gang conspiracy ring.
On Friday, Harrisonburg police say 29-year-old Rafael Jimenez tried to kill another person in the 1000 block of Meadowlark Drive.
"The bullet missed its intended target, went through a fence, and missed an innocent citizen by mere inches," says Boshart.
Boshart says the shooting appears to be retaliation to a previous arrest.
"There was a drug arrest made several weeks ago. And, we believe that the attempted murder was a result of that arrest," says Boshart.
Police say Martin and Jimenez are both convicted felons.
Commonwealth's Attorney Marsha Garst says these are significant arrests in the area because of the people of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County seeing more violent crime associated with drugs and gang activity.
Harrisonburg Police also arrested two other people in this case Wednesday.
Harmonie Alger faces two drug conspiracy charges and Chet McDonaldson faces ten drug chargesl. Police say additional arrests are pending in this case.
Martin and Jimenez have court dates scheduled for March 3.
