While the rest of us will be celebrating Fourth of July with fireworks and barbeques, Adam Buker will spend the holiday serving his country overseas. He's part of the 82nd Airborne Infantry in Afghanistan.
Gregg Buker, Adam's father and a former Marine, says, "He didn't have but six months in the service and he's already going overseas in a somewhat hostile environment."
The Buker family had hoped Adam would be home for the Fourth of July, but they're used to him being gone for the holiday. Last Independence Day, Adam was at bootcamp. This year, he's fighting for our freedom.
"He says they've been okay, not fired on or attacked. It's been fairly routine and they've got a lot of good training out of this," says Adam's dad.
Adam told his family he was recently interviewed by Geraldo Rivera and ABC News, but to the Buker’s, Adam's more than a celebrity and a soldier. He's their son.
"We all think about him every day. Not a day goes by we don't think about what he's doing. We appreciate what he's doing for us," Gregg says.
Adam told his family he should be home sometime in August.
