Evidence of more than 12-years of gang activity is adding up in Harrisonburg.

"We have six gangs. Los Latos Locos. Crips. Latin Kings. La Raza. MS 13 and Sorejno 13," said Sgt. Roger Knott, Harrisonburg Police Department. He says Sorenjo 13 is known to be very violent. "There is a fee they would get for killing a police officer on the east coast."

Sgt. Knott says the Valley has been pinned as an area with a drug problem and drug problems attract gangs. He says that Gang related activity has to do with the selling and distribution of drugs, so that could bring them in.

Right now, we have a lot of tagging and graffiti, but Knott says without becoming pro-active, our problem could get worse.

"Wannabes usually turn into gonna bes just because they have that group mentality and they get away with a lot of things because you can't identify one specific person in the group," said Knott.

The best thing you can do is stay vigilant and be aware of your surroundings.

"This isn't just anybody out there. This is group...they will have the same characteristics," said Knott. "Black, red, blue. They will where they same types of colors to identify their group."

Harrisonburg is still coming up with a plan of attack for dealing with the gang activity but police urge you to report any graffiti or taggings that show up in your neighborhood. That's the best way they can track the gang activity.
