Waynesboro Police are searching for an armed robber who robbed the Sunoco Gas Station on North Poplar Street Tuesday night.

"It makes me upset, because it could have happened to me," says neighbor Teresa Evans.

Two hours after Evans left her store, Tienda Mexicana, Waynesboro Police got word of an armed robbery across the street.

"It was an alarm, robbery alarm, from the business that was robbed, and the responding officers were notified by 911," says Sgt. Kelly Walker.

Waynesboro Police are now following leads on one suspect whom Walker describes as an African American man of medium build, about five foot eight inches. Walker says the man was wearing all black clothing at the time of the robbery.

Police say the suspect entered the store with a silver pistol. As for the amount of money the suspect got away with, police are not releasing any specific details.

Walker says, "We don't want to disclose the amount of money but it was an amount over $200."

While the police sirens aren't wailing anymore and the investigation continues, Evans is still affected.

She says, "People need to stop robbing other people and get a job. We work hard to get where we are."

The employee who was robbed and the manager of the gas station did not want to comment on camera Wednesday. However, they say they just want to put the whole thing behind them.

If you have any information regarding this robbery, call Crimestoppers at 800- 322- 2017
