The Staunton City Council showed its appreciation to the service of one community member Thursday night.

A resolution was read in honor of Fire Chief Michael Myers of Staunton Fire and Rescue.

Myers will retire January 30 after 32 years of service to the city.

Promoted to fire chief in 2002, he implemented a successful fire apparatus replacement plan among many other contributions.

Myer's thank you to council was followed by a standing ovation from those in attendance.
