The DMV hopes to protect your identity by giving your drivers license a new look.
Beginning July 1, Virginia driver’s licenses will not show social security numbers. Instead, drivers will be issued a customer number.
You've had the option since 1995, but now it's mandatory. You can either wait until your license renews, or you can get a new one without your social security number now for $10.
DMV officials urge you to do that, they say identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in America.
