Front Royal citizens have filed court petitions to remove Mayor Bob Tenant and two council members. The Ad Hoc Committee on Petitions for Removal has gotten 25 percent of the town's active voters to help oust these officials.
The group says it doesn't want to wait until the next election to remove them. Coordinator Betty Molchany says the petitions are concerned with more than just the proposed Wal-Mart which has spurred a lot of citizen anger recently.
"It has to do with our loss of faith and trust in these officials to do what is right or to act in our interest," Molchany explains.
Molchany says no case law in Virginia shows that this type of government overthrow has been attempted before. Her group is waiting on a judge to consider the case.
