Several Mary Baldwin College students are back from a trip to Texas where they attended the annual Clinton Global Initiative Convention.

The four students learned the importance of volunteerism and public service first-hand from former President Bill Clinton.

Since their participation in the first conference a year ago, the students formed the Mary Baldwin Global Initiative and have raised nearly $1,000 to help the school become more energy efficient.

Student Robyn Stegman says it's worth the effort.

"Getting out there, seeing a problem that you see while your doing community service, or you're traveling abroad," says Stegman. "Make a commitment to change that problem, and figure out how you're doing it, and when you read about things in the newspaper and think oh that's terrible, well delve one step further and say what can I do."

At the convention, Clinton said the current financial crisis is an example of the downside of global interdependence.

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
