The 40th Anniversary of Nixon's Resignation

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV)-- Nixon resigned after the largest political scandal in history...Watergate.

The tapes that hold many of his recorded conversations have finally come out of hiding.

Nixon said the following on February 1, 1972, about world peace:

"We are in a situation at the present time where the U.S. through its power, can create conditions which can lead to peace for, perhaps 25 years. Now, what is important is that the United States use that power, and use it effectively."

A CNN poll shows those older than 40 believe the Watergate scandal was a very serious problem. However, those younger than 40 believe it was just politics. The poll also shows trust in government is at an all-time low.

How much do you think the american people trust the government these days?
