The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is holding a series of updates on the Bluestone Dam this week.

The first public meeting was held Monday at 6 p.m. in Prince. Meetings also are planned for 6 p.m. Tuesday in Eleanor, 5 p.m. Wednesday in Point Pleasant and 6 p.m. Thursday in Smithers.

Huntington District commander Col. Dana Hurst is scheduled to provide information about the dam and how it controls the Kanawha River.

The corps plans to reduce water levels behind the dam while it undergoes repairs to prevent failure. Work started in 2001 and the project is expected to continue until 2020.

Reducing the level is expected to result in releasing more water during heavy rains, which could cause flooding downstream.

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
