You can expect to see Virginia Department of Transportation crews working into Tuesday, but the road preparations for this winter storm began Sunday.

Sandy Myers says the crews did not use a new liquid brine solution. She says, since the storm started as rain, the water would simply wash the solution away.

However, once the snow started falling, she says that's when plowing began. The trucks also used salt and other abrasives like they would in any storm.

"We're also seeing a lot of blowing snow on the local roads. So, even though the plows may have come through, if the snow blows back on the road it might melt with the sun. But, then you could have a black icing situation later on [Monday] evening," says Myers.

Myers says the wind made things difficult, on Afton Mountain in particular. Even though the roads were treated, large vehicles still had trouble with slick conditions.

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
