WUSA - a television station out of Washington, DC, is reporting that police do know the identity of the young woman found in the Shenandoah River 10 days ago.

Police shared pictures of the woman's tattoos with the public, asking for help to identify her. She had been stabbed several times.

Captain Tim Carter of the Shenandoah County Sheriff's office says investigators are waiting for lab results. He will not confirm the identity. WUSA is also reporting the victim had been a witness in a gang probe. But Carter won't confirm that either.

Carter says his agency is the only one handling this investigation. It remains to be seen how WUSA discovered the identity of the woman. Carter says the information did not come from his office.
