Two enormous open-air bridges were installed at the Urban Exchange building in Harrisonburg Tuesday morning.

Construction officials say two of the three bridges were fitted to connect two of the structures. Each of the bridges were lifted over the east wing of the building and set into place between the two wings, spanning the courtyard area.

Michael Foster, Principal of MFTA Architecture, worked with the design team on the building. After seeing the yellow bridge in place, he said it will fit nicely with the architecture of downtown Harrisonburg.

"This project is envisioned to really be a culmination of part of Harrisonburg's history," says Foster. "It's a playful building in a very modern and contemporary way."

Urban Exchange will provide 96 apartments for lease, 98 condos for sale, and about 12,000 square feet of retail space for lease.

Foster said it's slated to open during the summer.
