In a place where the best things usually grow out of the ground, a pleasant surprise fell from the sky this week.

A wine maker at Cross Keys Vineyard in Mount Crawford found a broken balloon with a pink letter attached in among the vines Thursday. The letter was from a boy named Jacob in Russia, Ohio.

Russia is a small town about 40 minutes north of Dayton.

Monday, Jacob and other students at Russia Elementary School launched the balloons as part of the school's Right to Read Week.

By Thursday, Jacob's balloon traveled 466 miles to Mount Crawford, where it finally came down in the vineyard.

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
