"It's sort of like a scavenger hunt," says Emmy Smith.
Rolling through the aisles, you can scope out the competition, from fliers with freebies to coupons with special codes. With Smith on your team, you win by checking out on the cheap.
Smith says, "For me, it's just looking for the best bargain looking for the best deal. If I'm going to go out and buy these items anyway and I can get them at a lower price. It's a lot of fun to find the best price from the different stores or using a coupon."
Smith is a woman on a mission. She scours Websites with the intention of finding you the best deals in the Valley. From big businesses to small, she is set on saving.
"I'm just constantly looking for ways that I can save people more money. I want to pass on more deals, but if they found [an item] at a great savings on my site, it made me feel good to know they could get what they wanted and not break the bank," says Smith.
Smith's website has seen a spike in site visits over the last few months. She attributes that to economic unrest and people looking to seriously save.
"Things aren't getting better right now and until they do, this is something the need is there for. I'll have the site open, I'll be posting the deal and immediately after posting the deal I'll go ahead and take advantage of it myself."
As a single mom who just lost her job, she knows all too well about cutting back.
Smith says, "I have a well stocked pantry because of the way I grocery shop, so I haven't had to go grocery shopping since I got laid off, which saves a big chunk of money."
She also says impulse buying just because you have a coupon will wind up costing you in the long run.
"We have to be conscious of how we spend," adds Smith. "We have been a country of over-spenders and we aren't careful with our money and we really need to be."
In a grim economic time, it might be a good idea to remember the old adage "a penny saved is a penny earned."
