Wayne Hills Baptist Church hosted a Community Outreach Festival Saturday, with hopes of reaching out to the less fortunate in their own community. There were free clothes, free groceries, free haircuts, and even a free puppet show.
Organizer Nicole Klingensmith was visiting her family in Texas when she saw this type of event at another church. Says Klingensmith, “I just though it would be an awesome thing to bring to this area. So I didn’t know who to present the idea to. So I went to my Pastor and asked can we do something like this.”
The pastor and church members donated all the clothes and food. Families left with at least two bags of food. Many parents picked out up to three outfits for the upcoming school year.
Organizers said their goal was to reach the community, one family at a time. There are already talks of making this event bigger and better next year.
