The Virginia Department of Transportation will be changing the speed limit on part of Route 340 in northwestern Augusta County.

The speed limit in the Crimora area will be reduced from 55 miles-per-hour to 45 miles-per-hour from just south of the Route 663 intersection to just north of the Route 612 intersection.

The new speed limit will go into effect after the new signs are put in place, which is scheduled for March 31.

Area citizens submitted a request through the Verona VDOT residency office for a speed study. The study was conducted at the same time as a roadway safety assessment of the intersection of 340 and 612.

VDOT approved the new speed zone March 6.

Typical routine for the state of Virginia, change a speed limit, act like it needed to be changed due to safety reasons, and then post a state trooper nearby to collect your tax dollars.
