State Senate Majority Leader Truman Chafin is asking the agency that oversees the West Virginia Turnpike to turn over documents on how it spent federal dollars.

The Mingo County Democrat told fellow senators Thursday he filed a Freedom of Information Act request after being told by the Manchin administration that $10 million wasn't used for the 88-mile toll road.

Truman is among several southern West Virginia lawmakers who question how the Parkways, Economic Development, and Tourism Authority has managed the turnpike.

The authority says it needs to increase tolls to keep up with maintenance and other expenses.

Truman said he wants to know where the federal money went and who made the decision to divert it.
