Following a deadly fire in Page County, hundreds of people are helping a family who lost nearly everything, including their five-year-old daughter.

The Sherfey family's home was insured, but nothing inside of it was.

People gathered Saturday at a church in Stanley to raise money through a benefit concert to help the family.

The Fellowship Baptist Church has been in the Sherfey family for decades. Donnie Sherfey became the pastor last year.

"It's amazing what I've seen Page County turn out to do. I've never seen anything like this," says Donnie.

The fire broke out the night of March 3. Cameron Sherfey and his older daughter, Caroline, escaped through a second-story window. Cameron's wife, Chasity, got out through the back door.

Family members say the fire spread too quickly and five-year-old Auna Sherfey was trapped inside.

Auna's grandfather, Chuck Sherfey, says the survivors of the fire are staying with family members. They're figuring out what to do with the home.

"The house was insured. But everything inside the house, which belonged to Cameron and Chasity, it was not insured. And, they lost everything in the house. The fire wiped everything out. It took everything," says Chuck.

The fire has affected Donnie's weekly sermons at the church. Family members say they're relying especially on their faith to cope.

"You can replace clothes. You can replace homes. You can replace material possessions. But, you can't replace human life," says Donnie.

Chuck says the family does plan to replace the home. His son told him that's where Auna loved to be, so it's fitting to rebuild.

Investigators have not found a cause of the fire yet. The say sometimes this type of investigation can take weeks or months, if they ever find a cause.

However investigators do say they haven't found anything to make them think the fire was suspicious.
