Dog Days Take Sad Turn

When people refer to the dog days of summer, they're normally talking about hot weather. But Staunton celebrates its dog days by contributing money and supplies to the Augusta County SPCA.

Downtown stores offer up sales and collection places for food and things the shelter needs. Many also give part of their profits for the day to the shelter.

But Saturday's Dog Days also had an air of sadness around it. Mosby, the unofficial mascot of the downtown shops, was shot and killed Friday. Mosby, who spent a lot of time at the "Collector's Choice" and "Silver Linings" shops was a downtown icon. He was a therapy dog and visited local nursing homes.

A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of Mosby's killer. To report information, call Mosby's owners at 540-939-4317.
