About one hundred area children got a jump start on the school year in Harrisonburg Saturday. It was the 12th Annual Salvation Army Back to School Supply Giveaway.
Children in grades K-12 received pens, pencils, markers, crayons, scissors, folders, paper, and binders, all inside fun backpacks.
The idea is to make sure school age children have the basics they need to start back to school on the right foot. The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office was also on hand, fingerprinting children and supplying I.D. kits for parents.
