Harrisonburg Robberies
Harrisonburg Two armed robberies in two days have Harrisonburg police concerned. Investigators are looking at both robberies separately, but they aren't ruling out the possibility that these may be connected. Not only are police concerned, but store owners are as well. The first robbery happened at a convenience store Tuesday evening. The next night, a T.J. Maxx cashier was robbed at gunpoint and the suspects stole an undisclosed amount of money. For the convenience store owner, this wasn't the welcoming into the Valley he expected.
Indalecio Robles owns a small convenience store in Harrisonburg. "My dream is open grocery store like this," says Indalecio Robles.
But when Tienda Raquel opened Tuesday, Robles got one customer he didn't expect. "He came up straight to me, pointed one gun at my head, and he asked give me the money, open the register and give me the money," says Robles.
The next day, another robbery happened at the T.J. Maxx in Harrisonburg involving robbers with the same physical description. But police say it is too early to connect the robberies.
"We don't want to jump quickly to the conclusion that they are connected but we also have to look at all the possibilities," says Lt. Kurt Boshart.
Police are investigating each robbery individually. In the meantime, Robles is making sure it doesn't happen again and keeping his door locked as much as possible.
"I'm scared a little bit, but now I’ll be prepared for anything," says Robles.
Harrisonburg police are patrolling the two stores where the robberies took place and continuing with the investigation. The only description police are left with is there were two black males, about six feet tall and 180 pounds. One was wearing a red bandana over his face and the other was wearing a camouflage hat and a black style hunting mask.
If you have any information, you are urged to call the Harrisonburg Police Department at 434-2545.
