Two Coeburn men have been sentenced in the torching of a historic lookout tower in the Jefferson National Forest and a nearby restroom building.

U.S. Attorney Julia Dudley said Thursday that 24-year-old Nicholas Owens and 24-year-old Christopher Dominic Hyatt were sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Big Stone Gap.

Dudley says Owens received five years in prison and five years of supervised release. Hyatt was sentenced to three years and one month in prison and three years of supervised release.

Each defendant also must pay $523,851 in restitution.

The October 31, 2007, fire destroyed the High Knob Observation Tower in Wise County. A nearby restroom building in Scott County also was destroyed.
