The public will have an opportunity to weigh in on proposed toll increases for the West Virginia Turnpike during a series of hearings next month.

According to the turnpike's Web site, hearings will be held May 19 in Belle, May 20 in Fayetteville, May 21 in Beckley and May 22 in Princeton. Each hearing will run from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The Parkways Economic Development and Tourism Authority plans to raise tolls on the 88-mile highway and is expected to vote in June on the amount.

The favored option would raise tolls from $1.25 to $2 per barrier for cars and from $4.25 to $6.75 for five-axle trucks. Motorists with E-ZPasses would pay $1.50 per barrier for a car and $5.06 for a truck.
