The Kanawha County Sheriff's Department is keeping an especially close watch on one member of a trio of federal prisoners who were arrested in Charleston this morning after escaping from a North Carolina jail.
Thirty-seven-year-old Anthony Artrip of Ashland, Kentucky has escaped from at least three lockups in the past. Sentenced to federal prison in Colorado last year, he's been charged or suspected of bank heists in North Carolina, West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Indiana and Georgia.
Kanawha County Sheriff Mike Rutherford says Artrip is under close watch as police and federal law enforcement agents work out the details of the case.
Artrip escaped from a North Carolina jail last night along with 29-year-old David Lee Cox and 38-year-old James Butler.
The three men were arrested in Charleston after a bank robbery in Marmet. Police have not charged any of the men with the robbery yet, because they aren't sure if all of them participated.
However, all three will faces charges for the escape.
