Thousands of drivers spent part of their Tuesday stuck in traffic.
While hazardous materials and other emergency response crews worked to clean up Monday night's crash on Interstate 81, drivers were diverted to U.S. Route 11.
Many out-of-state drivers and others got an unexpected tour through Woodstock Tuesday. The two-lane road was jammed with trucks and cars, making for a long detour.
"I'm tired," says David Williams, who's on his way to Baton Rouge from upstate New York. "We would stop in places for ten, 15 minutes at a time without moving. And not knowing what was going on, it just makes it that much more harassing."
Drivers were rerouted down an eight-mile stretch of Route 11.
It wasn't just interstate travelers who were impacted. Elizabeth Stewart works in Woodstock and she takes her kids to daycare north of the town. Her usual 20-minute trip took an hour Tuesday morning.
"When there's a wreck, you'll see a lot of the truckers coming to 11 to avoid it, but it's rare that they completely shut it down," says Stewart.
Compared to past traffic crashes, she says the traffic from closing the interstate was worse.
Don Dimock says he sat in traffic for two-and-a-half hours before he stopped for a break. Like Williams, he's also traveling south from upstate New York.
"You've got to be patient, and everyone was this morning. I thought that we all did well," says Dimock.
Some people who live in Woodstock call Tuesday's traffic extreme, but they say there's simply nothing you can do about it but just try to deal with it.

this was the worse that i've ever seen. Far as back roads go, i don't believe that tractor trailers need to be traveling those *back roads* I live on 620(Smith Creek Road) and I was taken back by the number of tractor trailers that flew off the mountain and made their treck on the back roads......i'm surprised other accidents didn't happen. Again, tractor trailer drivers that are always in a hurry, and only thinking about themselves
People should know the back roads around when an accident happens on 81, that helps out alot with the congestion in the town.If you dont you should learn them thats what some of them were made for or extined for.
