In neighborhoods like Wayne Hills, water accumulates in the street every time it rains. The Waynesboro City Council is now trying to alleviate that problem by setting up new building codes for new homes and businesses that will be built in areas like this.
The new ordinance will only affect new structures going up in the flood plain. Homeowners who now live in a flood plain won't have to change; they'll be grandfathered in.
But before you build, the city will require that the property be surveyed, so you will know whether you're affected by this new ordinance.
