I lived near bluehole for thirty years it is a nice place, but parking is a serious problem. Have VDOT put a guardrail up and the parking problem would be solved.

I TOO been sadend by what violaters do at blue hole.always no blame to the violaters. ive drove for 30 years by this site and now i go by and think this could have been stoped by puting gardralls to stop violaters parking.

If Pablo Cuevas still wants to fix this problem, sell the land to me..I'll fix it and once the hole is filled with rock and concrete you can cry the blue hole blues all you want. Parking won't be an option and violaters will be towed at owners expense, end of story. If RHC can't fix it, maybe my solution will work once placed in the ownership of private hands. As Tom stated over 35 years of complaints and no solution, what wizzards do we have in office?

I too have had a near death experience at Blue Hole..Almost hit head on,as my brakes came to a screatching halt...that was almost 15 years ago and I remember it like it was yesturday....nevertheless...as a neighbor to the Teter Family, I find myself driving by there house and hearing the silence and feeling the sadness that surrounds this once pretty lively family..I believe that 2 things HAVE GOT TO happen....First, everyone who was parked in the area should be held responsible, do they even realize they ARE the reason a father of 5 is dead..Sometimes people need to be made examples of so people might think twice befor doig it themselves...I wasn't there, but I know, just as everyone that travels that road knows that this accident would have not happened if the area had been blocked off..Which is second on my list of things that need to be done..For real...how hard is it to put up gard rails for pete sake or in this case for James Teter's sake, may he rest in peace and god be with him

Is the death of one good man worth the Blue Hole swimming area? How about an attempted rape, the use of illegal drugs. The list goes on & has done so for over 35 years. This area has a rap sheet a mile long, yet other than an occasional ticket or tow it's a slap on the wrist to the law breakers and a slap in the faces to the community & patrons affected. I think it's time to take this above the county officials and let something be decided at State level. I don't understand why (at the sake of innocent lives) anyone elected into office could keep this going. He left behind 5 kids and a widow, not to mention what this has done to his immediate family. Shame on you City counsel, planning board members and anyone else that could have gotten this fixed long ago.

Many times the comments that are left on discussion boards such as these are skewed. However I believe that the ones being left here are completely accurate. This was a tragic accident that could have been completely avoided if the law would have been enforced. I drive by the scene of this accident at least 8 times a week, and have had many close calls there myself. The people who choose to park illegally in the state right-of way should be held responsible for this accident. VDOT should also take greater measures to ensure that accidents like this will not happen again. Jerry has the best point of all, "stop doing nothing". Hopefully good will come from this tragedy, and VDOT will do just that. It will make the road safer for everyone who travels it. My thoughts and prayers are with the Teter family in their time of loss.

This accident was completely avoidable and was directly related to the illegal parking on Rt 33. Some of the patrons of the Blue Hole swimming area do obey the parking restrictions. But many more do not. They will not park at Riven Rock Park and walk back because it is too far. They prefer to park over the white line in the curve. Many people travel that road especially over the summer when the vacationers are out. I would ask that VDOT and whoever is responsible for that area to come up with a better plan than a few loads of dirt.

As one of the nieces to James Teter, I believe the parking area there at the blue hole should be COMPLETELY BLOCKED OFF, with guardrails or something else, so that people can not park there at all! Myself traveling to Virginia, from West Virginia there has been many times that the road has been almost blocked due to vehicles being parked there, with JMU students, and Hispanic people mostly, parking there and walking in the road, and with there being NO PARKING signs posted. This needs to be STOPPED before there is more tragedies like this one! If people hadn't been parked there this may have been prevented.

He was ejected into oncoming traffic. If you know what the traffic problem has been in the past at the Blue Hole then blame should be placed elsewhere. I've been ejected doing 25 MpH on a bike, it's not hard to do on a dry road. My personal opinion...if the VDOT and local law enforcement, along with a few chosen planning commission board members would make a "DECENT EFFORT" to correct this long history of complaints of this area of road...then the finger pointing could be left to the kindergarteners and not grown adults! How many lives have to be lost due to a poorly unsupervised stretch of roadway before someone gets a clue? I have only one PHRASE to say to those that coulda, shoulda and must fix this problem ASAP. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing..Stop sitting on your hands and fix this. Look at the lives forever changed because people park illegally on a 2 way, 2 lane road. I pray for you and your family my old friend, rest easy now.
