Stimulus Money for WV and VA Wastewater Improvements

Both West Virginia and Virginia are getting millions in federal stimulus money to help communities provide safe drinking water and improve wastewater treatment systems.

Both West Virginia and Virginia are getting millions in federal stimulus money to help communities provide safe drinking water and improve wastewater treatment systems.

West Virginia is getting more than $65 million to help 20 communities.

Elkins got the most at $29 million, followed by Philippi with $7.7 million and Belington with nearly $4 million.

The town of Wayne received $3.7 million, the Gauley River Public Service District got $3.2 million and Crum got slightly more than $3 million.

Fourteen other communities received between $220,000 and $2 million.

Virginia is getting more than $11 million to help four Virginia communities.

The Carroll County Public Service Authority will receive $6.2 million.

The city of Norton is getting $3.16 million.

Another $1 million is going to Wythe County while the town of Rural Retreat will receive $734,000.

All were among more than 193 water and environmental projects across the country sharing in more than $615.8 million.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the selections Tuesday.
