More than $367 million from lottery earnings will go to Virginia public schools this year.
That's the largest amount the lottery has ever contributed.
Virginia's Secretary of Education says it's money local schools desperately need.
"The state dollars are being cut because we don't have state dollars to give," said Dr. Belle Wheelan. "We're in a $3.9 billion deficit in state revenues, not only was public education cut, every state agencies' budgets were cut."
Dr. Wheelan says the $367 million will help replenish some of the money cut from school budgets.
