A man convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the death of a Chesapeake police detective has been sentenced to ten years in prison.
Circuit Court Judge Marjorie A.T. Arrington accepted the jury's recommendation in sentencing 29-year-old Ryan Frederick to the maximum term on Friday.
The Chesapeake man was convicted in February in the 2008 shooting death of 34-year-old Jarrod Shivers.
Shivers had come to Frederick's home to search for a marijuana-growing operation.
Frederick's attorney, James Broccoletti, said Frederick will appeal.
