D.C. police say they have identified the child's body that was pulled from the Potomac River May 5.

Police say the 11-year-old boy is Jorge Eligio Rivera of Winchester, Virginia. Earlier news reports said the D.C. police had identified the child as Jorge Castro.

However, Officer Quintin Peterson says the department did not release information on the child's identification until Tuesday.

Rivera was fishing with his father April 26 when he slipped off rocks into the Potomac about 75 yards south of the Chain Bridge. Authorities say the father tried to reach the child and had to be rescued.

Meanwhile, officials say they still have not identified a body recovered May 2 from the Potomac, which is believed to be that of a man who jumped into the river to try to help Rivera.

I just want this young boys family to know how sorry I am that they have to go through losing their son. My heart goes out to the father as well for his attempt to save the youngster from drowning, as well as the unidentified man who also tried to help. Let this be a lesson to all of us...who think we are "aware" of our surrondings! We must remember to be safe around water...especially swift running rivers...the can look very "innocent" from the banks. Again to the family...my condolences to you and you are in my prayers.
