A West Virginia businessman says he's paying off more than $2.6 million in outstanding federal and state penalties for violations at his former coal operations.
Jim Justice said Thursday he has arranged to pay off a $1.6 million settlement with the state Department of Environmental Protection over water pollution at Dynamic Energy.
Justice also says he's paid off more than $1 million in fines levied by the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration for safety violations at several operations.
Justice recently completed the sale of several companies to Russian mining and metals company Mechel OAO.
Justice's family business, Justice Family Group, announced last week it had acquired the rights to The Greenbrier resort.
