An immigrant group has brought a lawsuit against seven Virginia colleges, including JMU and UVA, accusing them of denying admission to illegal immigrants.
Attorney general Jerry Kilgore made the recommendation last year. Some believe this policy punishes high school students who were brought to the United States by their parents. Other say these illegal immigrants only attended public school by using fake identification to enroll in the first place.
Courtney Garrison, spokesperson for Immigration and Customs Enforcement says, "One of the things we typically see in illegal communities is when they buy fake documents they'll essentially buy a packet and that may include a birth certificate, social security card and anything else, essentially they're buying an identity is what they're doing."
